As a reminder of the courtesies which facilitate amiable sharing of the waters:
Always idle into the area where a slalom course is located.
Any waves created as boats enter the area will cause difficulty for the skier.
Take Your Proper Turn.
Check with boats already waiting to determine who is in line and take your place in the sequence. Each person in the boat that "is up" is typically entitled to 6 passes through the course before the next boat "is up." Please note that a fall is a pass.
During busy times it may be more efficient and courteous to rotate skiers one-at-a-time between several boats to minimize skier changeout/changeover time and maximize skiing time for everyone. This way, the time normally wasted "changing out" skiers is used by another skier while changeout takes place. The overriding rule should be COURTESY.
Reduce "Dead" Time Between Skiers
Limit the time you take between passes waiting for the backwash to "settle."If you quit at a place other than at the staging area, idle to the side of the course, sound your horn to let others know it is safe to proceed, then idle out.
Watch for the Safety of Other Skiers
If a boat or waverunner is nearing the course at other than an idle, or is entering the course area in any manner that will endanger a skier already on the course, try to slow them down or stop them. Idle over to the individual and politely share the safety considerations and courtesies with them.
To Our Non-skiing Friends
Fishermen - Boaters - PWC OperatorsWe thank you for observing the following courtesies:
- Please idle (NO WAKE - DON’T PLOW) when in the area of any of our TWRA permitted slalom courses. ANY waves created are a problem because they greatly increase the skier’s potential for injury from a fall.
- Please travel through the area well to the outside limits of the course.
- If you are fishing in the area, our members will exert every effort not to disturb your fishing. We will keep our distance and avoid making quick turnarounds and pickups.Thank you!
Remember to always wear your PFD, boat safely and have a wonderful day on the water!
